  • Titans lost:

  • Jadaveon Clowney - Titans are still in the hunt; Jon Robinson said that Clowney and Logan Ryan are in discussions
  • CB Logan Ryan still not signed
  • Rumor: NFL considering shortening the 2020 season and/or playing in empty or partially filled stadiums

Stupid Question of the Week

  • Is there one player still on the free agent market that will put the Titans over the top for a Super Bowl run?

  • Sound Bite of the Week: Taylor Lewan on Tornado Relief for Nashville
  • Tom Brady linked to the Titans
  • Ryan Tannehill will probably test free agency
  • Jack Conklin will probably test free agency
  • My Take On Marcus Mariota’s season:
    • Week 1 (Browns W): 14/24 248 yds 3 TDS - passes seem tentative; able to find talented receivers; return of Delanie Walker; sacked 4 times
    • Week 2 (Colts L): 19/28 154 yds 1 TD - crisper passing, but wants to make every pass so precise he doesn’t use enough zip; fumbling returns; doesn’t make decisions quick enough; still throws too high in crucial moments; sacked 4 times
    • Week 3 (Jaguars L): 23/50 304 yds - throws too often in an open stance; doesn’t drive the ball; doesn’t read the blitz well; under throws the long ball; doesn’t trust his arm to make the throws needed; more fumbling; seems to have forgotten how to find running lanes when under pressure; sacked 9 times
    • Week 4 (Falcons W): 18/27 227 yds 3 TDS - when throwing to AJ Brown, drives the ball; still throws too often with an open stance; receivers saved questionable throws; not sacked
    • Week 5 (Bills L): 13/22 183 yds - still struggling with throwing when being blitzed; doesn’t make good decisions; just doesn’t trust himself or the offensive scheme; sacked 5 times
    • Week 6 (Broncos L): 7/18 63 yds 2 int - looks extremely uncomfortable running this offense; lacks good decision making under pressure; sacked 5 times
    • Summary: not confident in the system nor with his abilities; unable to show off his running due to indecision; the offensive line didn’t solidify until after he was benched; could have been 6-0 if he would have been the right QB; does his “niceness” give him a lack of a killer instinct?

  • Subject: What a Season

    Good Day Michael

This is Tommy from Atlanta. This season is what a true Titans fans could ask for. Even though we didn’t make it to the big dance, I will admit that I’m so proud of the effort they provided. With all the free agents we have, J. Rob has his work cut out for him. Is it just me or is Corey Davis is having the same career as Marcus? Each year we have these big hopes for him or we are making excuses on why his production is low. Like Mariota he just may not be in the right system to display his talent.

My Question to you, If the Titans only have 1 choice to resign either Henry or Tannehill, which one should they choose and why.

  • Subject: We Won!

    Did we win? you sure

I always had faith at 17-7 as the Colts are garbage but hey its the Colts so I guessed we could find a way to lose and yes we did try.

With Jacoby Brissett signed on till 2020 so you expect the Colts to try draft a QB to start in 2020 or 2021, I would love Jacoby Brissett to stick around for a few years and the Titans get a real run on wins against the Colts

Do you think the Patriots are having the worst 10- 2 year in the last decade, yes a good defense but wow the offense is useless.

Yes to Brady in 2020 for the laughs just not at the Titans

    James Stark

  • Subject: It’s About Time

    Hi Michael,

This is Tommy from Atlanta. What an exciting game, “We Beat the Colts”. During the 1st half, I will admit I thought it was the Same Old Titans. It appears that our offense has gotten better. My question for you, is Author Smith a good OC but Marcus couldn't execute the plays; or, Is Tannehill perfectly executing bad play calls.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Emails/Voicemails

  • Hello from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada! I love the podcast and absolutely love the Titans! Derrick Henry is a beast and I can’t wait to see him run all over the Colts! I think the playoffs are a real possibility this season, but after that, the Titans are going to have to make several cap decisions. I think the Titans will absolutely resign Henry and let Mariota walk away, but are there any players you see as someone the Titans will let walk away that might be a shock to the rest of the fans?

    Thanks,

    Devin

It is only me or is it ridiculous that the backup QB wears his helmet the whole game yet the starting QB takes his of when the defense is on the field.

  • “Intense Chargers Game”

    Hi Michael,

This is Tommy from Chattanooga which moved to Atlanta. The game with the Chargers was very intense. Ryan Tannehill looked very concise and confident. I haven’t felt “NOT” nerves about this offense in a long time. It seems that we truly played complementary football. All I can say about Jeffery Simmons is “WOW he’s a beast”.

I have 2 questions and love to hear your responses.

    1. Is it too early to step on the Tannehill train?
    2. I feel that the offense is still a little shaky; could it be the offensive coordinator in experiences or are we seeing Mike Vrabel shortcomings.

    Keep up the good work!!!!

    Tommy

  • “QB”

Any chance TL 77 can try not to get a penalty against us in an important situation, this goes for the whole offense. We can’t move the ball 10 let alone 15.

For the QB spot, I would run with MM 8 for the remainder of the season as he will turn it around or he won’t and we will get the low pick.

I would have a quick hook at the half if it’s not going well, what do you think about the quick hook if MM 8 does start?

News

  • Soundbite of the week - Marcus Mariota
  • 1st round draft pick Jeffery Simmons started practicing this week. Might be ready for Sunday, but will most likely see limited action if playing.
  • With the benching of Mariota, is his future over in TN? What team will sign him (Dolphins, Buccaneers, Patriots, Chargers, Bengals, Steelers)
  • Who is at fault?
    • Offensive Line - Lewan suspension; finding a RG (Pamphile, Douglas, Davis); lead the league in negative plays; 10 - False Starts (#3 in the NFL), 9 - Holding (#12 in the NFL); Keith Carter - is he ruining this line?
    • Arthur Smith - no creativity in play calling; lacks a sense of when to call the screen pass; doesn’t stick with the run; over-thinks the opening drive play-calling
    • Mariota - 2nd guessing all decisions; too concerned about sticking with a play even though it’s not working; can’t find open receivers if they aren’t the first 2 reads; poor pocket presence; scrambles out of the pocket right into oncoming rushers
    • Wide Receivers - No consistent separation from top players; Davis (drafted #5 overall), Humphries, Sharpe are all disappointing; only Brown is having a good season
    • Mike Vrabel - poor clock management skills; too much confidence in an unproven coordinator and not enough in the starting QB; defensive-minded to a fault; doesn’t appear to have the skillset to fix the problem;
    • Officials - penalties are WAY up in the league; no clear-cut way of reading an official’s style; the entire league is on their heals trying to understand the interpretation of the new rules
    • Fans Expectations - Yes, Mariota is a #2 overall pick and should lead this team, but with the # of coordinators, # of hits taken, injuries, and a steadily worsening offensive line, we might want to give the guy a break

Stupid Question of the Week

  • If Tannehill struggles in a similar fashion, do you go back to Mariota?

(I think we actually played pretty well against a good team. They are just better than us right now)

    Big PI penalty.

  • (email from game vs. 49ers) This isn't a question, more of a statement, but everybody is completely overreacting. Everyone is blaming Mariota one week and the next week it is the coaches fault. We did not lose this week because of the play call at the end of the game, Mariota is the one who didn't audible. The coaches made the call before the defense adjusted. We can't be going back and forth every week on this discussion. They both are at fault. The offensive coaching isn’t great, but we have won games with this offense, this year when it's at its best.

Why is everyone complaining so much right now? We are in legitimate playoff contention right now. It has been a long time since this has happened, let's be excited. When each side of the ball is at its best, they are really really good. Let's be excited about potentially seeing them at their best and if we’re lucky maybe win a game in the playoffs. Let's save the complaining for the off-season, then let's spend our time talking about getting rid of coaches. We have extremely talented players that can beat good teams. Let’s talk about the upside, not the negatives.

  • Hey Guy,

This is unfortunate http://www.totalprosports.com/2017/12/25/titans-fan-now-stuck-with-massive-afc-south-champ-tattoo-after-jaguars-clinched-division-title/ he got it 10mths ago.

Can't wait till this week's games over and we can just move on.

    Regards James

  • I don't know about you guys, but I am super optimistic about this week 17 game. This team is looking really good, we just played a top 5 team to the wire in a game we easily could of won of a few things went our way (onside kick, false start…). We need to stop selling this team short, it is a top 10 team this year when both sides of the ball play well together. I really do believe the titans will beat the jaguars. It is a perfect matchup for us, the jaguars offense depends on the run game for bortles to play well, and the Titans can stop the jaguars run game (especially with fournette probably not playing the entire game). And the Titans have the tackles to slow down the jaguars pass rush, which it makes a lot more difficult for the jaguars elite pass defense to play as well. The titans have 4 wr threats that are as good as the next, which is a huge advantage in this game because of bouye and Ramsey can only cover 2 of them. I believe the titans match-up with the jaguars better than most teams in the NFL and will win by 10+ against a Jaguars team with nothing to play for.

  • That loss was excruciating. The conservative play calling on that last drive should be grounds to fire Robiskie tonight. Marcus was playing great. How you don’t either run it straight at them with Henry, or go off play action and let Marcus use his feet is beyond me when it’s third and 2. Instead another Murray shimmy that gets stuffed.

Compare that to what the niners did straight after. Even when they were already in FG range they took a shot to the end zone. I know we say it every week but this coaching staff is killing our potential.

On a lighter note after your defense of him on last weeks podcast I considered ending my #KeepMccainOffTheField campaign. Then I saw him give away a penalty on a third down and be constantly targeted (and mostly beaten) by the niners offense. So the campaign officially lives on.

Hope you guys can give me some optimism for the end of the season.

    Matt in London

  • I’m convinced that we’re not making the playoffs. I’m done with Mularkey... I don’t see his firing happening until this off season... The offense is atrocious!! Mularkey and Robiske are awful. I laugh when Mularkey throws challenge flags.  Let’s wait and  see if Robinson makes his money. Not making the playoffs should warrant a change.

    Extremely frustrated!

    Bryan Bates

  • Hey Team

  • Hey guys.

After staying up till midnight watching the titans stink it up on Sunday the only positive I could find was that we were SO bad on offence that surely changes will now be made. My greatest fear for this season was us sneaking into the playoffs, looking ok but not great, and not addressing our fundamental problems.

We managed to make Blaine Gabbert look a better QB than Marcus this week. That cannot happen. He clearly isn’t playing well at the moment. But when you have an offensive scheme that involves throwing 4 yard crossing routes to our top 5 pick Davis and targeting our starting cornerback with the game on the line then clearly something is wrong.

We need to get back to titans football. Run the crap out of the ball with Henry and sprinkle on the play action with Marcus.if we can score 20 points a game our defense is more than food enough to win games for us.  I still think we will make the playoffs, I just hope we aim to be a championship team in the future and don’t settle for being an ok team.

Keep up the great work guys.

    Matt in London

  • Hey guys,

Thinking 9-7 this season and playoffs a little disappointed as this most likely will be our best chance in the next handful of years to win division.

Just does not seem were getting any breaks with the officials this season and that compounded with our offence is killing us.
